A Little Picnic Spot

I might not have the energy to hike these days (and lately, I've really wanted to) but at least I can still enjoy nature.

If you are ever in Brevard, NC you have to take a drive up route 276. Picnic spots, views, waterfalls, and Sliding Rock. And if you keep going after all that, you reach The Blue Ridge Parkway.

A while back, my mom and I grabbed lunch in a deli in Brevard. We drove up route 276, and not too far along we found a lovely picnic spot next to a loud creek.

I know, cream soda, right? Should my liver be processing that? But it was sooooo good. The number one thing I miss is soda. I had a love/hate relationship with the stuff. I hated that I loved soda 2 to 3 times a day. I gave it up shortly before finding out I have cancer, and have only sipped ginger ale since.

Wait . . . this post was suppose to be about the loveliness of the NC mountains . . . not cancer. If I could live in Brevard, NC, I think I would . . . but for now I visit. . . and I dream . . .

  2. This post made me miss the Blue Ridge Mts. Looks like you found a lovely spot to have lunch. Have you been to Asheville? That was always on our "to do" list -- we never made it though when we lived there.

  3. Karen, what a beautiful day!! I too was going to ask you about Asheville...it's lovely...so is a little town nearby called Waynesville. I love Georgia...especially the mountains...but NC is pretty too! Thanks for the recommendation.

I hope this day has filled your heart and your spirit. Brightest blessings.

  4. I LOVE Asheville. I would love to live there, or Brevard. I have driven through Waynesville (so quaint) but I have never walked around. After Alaska I sooooooo wanted to move to Asheville, I emailed every principal at every school. No jobs. And then life happened . . . but who knows!!

  6. Another fun NC drive (further out) - is The Tail of the Dragon! Fun way to have a little adventure from the car. (Don't go if you are nauseous though - so twisty!)

    1. Just when I thought I have heard of it all, Rachel . . . Never heard of this but about to google it. I have actually never been to the far western corner of NC. I also found out this week that along the parkway (the part we recently visited) is a half mile trail to a GREAT swimming hole. The kind of place to go if Sliding Rock becomes too crowded!
