Food

I love food. My entire life I have enjoyed food, except for the 2 months of 2014 after finding out I had cancer. Eating even a cracker a day was hard for me. I always felt full. I lost 40-50 pounds in those 2 months. I wish that was an exaggeration. Then, suddenly, around Christmas, I regained my love for eating. I think it was at Brycen's birthday party actually. I couldn't get enough pizza and dirt pudding.

These days my oncologist tells me to try to get at least 2400 calories a day. I haven't lost any more weight, but haven't gained either.

Where am I going with this? Oh, food! I love eating, but I don't consider myself a foodie. I rarely try new foods. I haven't been to too many fancy restaurants - although it's on my bucket list and my brother and his wife are helping me get out to a few. I haven't even been to a food truck yet!

Which brings me to Thanksgiving. I do love to sit down and examine what I am thankful for. I do love NFL football. But what I really love is being around good people and good food!!

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving - twice!! I had to make up for my poor appetite on Thanksgiving 2014. My first Thanksgiving was early, around 1pm at a dear friend's house. We had chicken, green bean casserole, crescent rolls, mashed potatoes and dessert. We ate on the couch. It was simple, and it was wonderful.

Later, around 6pm, I ate with my family. My talented sister in law had a beautiful table set up.

Photo bombed.

The Panthers were on TV. They served turkey, ham, stuffing, pecan crusted sweet potato pie, brussel sprouts with bacon, marshmallow topped sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, rolls, salad, macaroni and cheese balls, cranberry sauce, potatoes au gratin, and at least 3 other things I am forgetting. For dessert there was apple cheesecake, apple pie, chocolate pie and acorns.

It was not simple, but it was also wonderful.

I write about these details because I don't want to forget either meal!

What did you eat for Thanksgiving?

  1. We ate tgiving dinner twice - just not in actual tgiving day. We were so excited to find turkey that we bought two! Then we found stove top and cleaned up on that too. Oddly enough I had an old, probably expired, jar of fancy cranberry relish. Then Sly made a chocolate cake.

  2. Hola Chica!
Thanksgiving is my all-time favorite holiday, mostly because I get to cook like the wind and everyone will eat! My mom and her husband are up here to be turkey eaters and help me move into a new house. We ate turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, brussels with bacon, glazed carrots, dinner rolls, and pumpkin pie. Delightful!!!

  4. Both those feasts sound very special! We went to your cousin Danny's home where Nita and her sister Kelly were cooking, fixing, chopping, delious good foods! I think Danny helped, too! Charlie broght his 92 yr old mom, Bea, from the nursing home, and Katie, Christy, Jamie, Michael, KL and Addy came with even more goodies. (Rob's family goes to Myrtle Beach every Thanksgiving.) The day was warmish enough to be outside as much as in and the flow of dogs (5) and human (11) traffic was fun to watch as the slidding doors got a workout! Jamie brought his guitar and made some background music to accompany conversations. A sweet day indeed.
